The Devil

Description

The devil card isn’t like the Death card that seems bad, but it’s good. The Devil card seems bad, and it has a bad meaning too. The devil in this card looks like the demon Baphomet who is half man half goat. He is crouching and has large bat wings. On his forehead is an inverted pentagram showing that he has dark energy that is hard to quench. There is also the opposite card i.e. the Devil Reversed which is also explained below for the benefit of our readers.

Below him are a naked man and woman chained to him. The two have horns showing that the more they spend time with the devil, the more they become like him.  The man has a tail that is on fire showing his addictions, while the woman’s tail supports a bowl with grapes or her addictions. The expression on their faces is that of misery and helplessness while their nakedness signifies vulnerability.

The chains on these two slaves’ heads are loose, and they could easily slip away. However, they seem addicted to the finer things of life the devil gives them. Thus, their bondage is out of free will.
