The Hierophant

The Hierophant is sometimes referred to as the pope or the high priest, as it shows a religious figure sitting in a church-like setting. On his left hand is a triple cross often associated with the Pope. The three horizontal bars on the cross represent the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. His right hand is raised with two figures pointing upwards and the other two pointing at the earth, signifying blessings. There is also the opposite card i.e. The Hierophant Reversed which is also explained below for the benefit of our readers.

The person has three colored robes on him, and his head is crowned with a three-tiered crown showing he rules over the super-conscious, sub-conscious, and conscious worlds. Two followers are kneeling beneath this religious figure listening to his knowledge and wisdom and waiting to take instructions from him.

The Hierophant signifies doctrine in the form of teaching or guidance that is already in place. It denotes established and convectional knowledge. It also shows the core values of institutions.
